Should I employ a solicitor?
Buyers Answers

Normally an English solicitor will not be able to help you, as few are fully conversant with the French system. We recommend you take professional advice from a specialist in French law - see our links page for contact details.

The French purchase is done in two stages, the first being the Compromis or Sousseign.  This binds the parties to the transaction.  The final stage is the Acte, which is drawn up by the Notaire and decides the inheritance situation for the property in the event of the death of a buyer.  It is important that the right contract is used here, as it is not practical to change it afterwards. This is where you need expert advice most.
