Birdwatchers and nature lovers will be delighted by the rich diversity of wildlife on our doorstep.

Domaine de Tabary is ideally placed for exploring the Perigord, an area rich with prehistoric, Roman and mediaeval remains

Excideuil, with its Xth century fortress, is a charming small market town with a host of mediaeval buildings. Much fought over by Richard, Coeur de lion, the town was also the home of troubadour Giraut de Borneil (1160—1219) and also saw Henri 11 (of Navarre), and Talleyrand.

Fine examples of Romanesque architecture are found in many nearby towns and in Perigueux, where the cathedral was designed by the same architect who built the famous Sacre Coeur in Paris.

For the energetic there is an outstanding network of cross-country tracks providing wonderful walking and cycling in unspoilt countryside. Some of these form parts of the pilgrim roads to Santiago de Compostela. These routes were studded with religious statues some of which still mark the way today.

The gourmet has a wide choice of many local markets and restaurants.

Excideuil itself is a picturesque, thriving market town with church, doctors, tennis courts, restaurants, supermarket and all necessary shops just 1km from Tabary. The town nestles in an area of rolling wooded hills, walnut groves, orchards and small farms.
