Dordogne Characters - The Postman .
Information for Buyers
A
Dordogne Postman.
Give
postman Pat a baguette and a moustache and here you have our local
postman. Fount of all knowledge local and administrative, for our Postie
is also the mayor of a nearby village, in which the family have lived and
farmed for generations. His brother runs the local Cave selling
wines and spirits, and also supplies domestic heating fuel, gas and coal.
His sister works in the local post office and is married to the owner of a
clothing business. So there is more to him than meets the eye!
Your
French home in the country probably will not have a name or street number
but do not despair, postie will know who lives there as soon as the
purchase contract for the house is signed. Your address will
therefore have to have your name, the postcode and the commune, and
sometimes the “Lieu dit” or place name. Our post arrives at
lunch time – it all depends where you are on the round.
If
you live in the country the chances are that you will get to know your
postman well and pick up all the local gossip, even down to the latest
sale of a property and the price it’s changed hands at. If he also
happens to be the mayor, then you are in luck (as long as you aren’t
doing anything you shouldn’t be!), as he is full of interesting
information
Instant
language lesson:
If
your French postman is Le Facteur then his female colleague is Madamme
la Factrice.
